We have completed the first quarter of the school year! It has been full of learning and activity and gone very quickly. We now embark on second quarter when the learning gets harder and the activities increase. Are you ready? In addition to all the curriculum projects, we will have awards for the fall fundraiser, two minimum days for parent-teacher conferences, an honor/merit chapel and Thanksgiving in November. Don’t forget Operation Christmas Child and food for needy families on November 20th. In December we will have two evening programs. On the 9th the second graders will present “It All Happened in the Country,” and our choirs will combine to present a Christmas Concert on December 16th. You are invited to both. Early in the month there will be a spelling bee for students in grades 1-6 and Christmas Caroling for all the evening of the 11th. Vacation will begin at 12:30 p.m. on the 18th and school will resume January 4th. Winners of the spelling bee in December will compete on January 8th representing our school in an ACSI District 5 challenge! First semester will end on January 15 and we will celebrate with Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day off. I repeat, “Are you ready?”

On Thursday from 6 – 8 PM, GHBS will take over Northridge Skateland. Only the Wolves and our guests may enter during this time. It is a great social time for students and parents alike. If your child doesn’t skate, it’s a perfect time to learn, with friends and Christian music. Only skaters pay at the door; observers are free. I understand Wally is coming. See you there!

On Thursday GHBS will join millions in the largest earthquake drill in our country’s history. Although we practice quarterly, this event will be much more extensive simulating injuries. Staff members will be in place monitoring students, administering first aid, searching for and rescuing those unaccounted for, and connecting students with their parents as they arrive.
We hope that our parents have read and understand the disaster plan we have so that you will know the procedures. We also encourage all families to have a home plan. This may be a good time to review it and practice .

GHBS looked like an open-air market on Saturday. Our yard sale had something for everybody, and then some. There were several goals for the day and they were all achieved. The church members and school families worked together; school dads were an integral part of the event; GHB was visible in the community; and we raised more than $3500! Thank you to all who helped in any way.
